New dot-CA Domain
Registration Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Domain Name?
Domain names are the familiar and easy to remember names used in lieu of
the difficult to remember Internet Protocol (IP) address numbers. IP
addresses are used to locate computers on the Internet.
What is the Domain Name System (DNS). What are Name Servers and why do I need them?
The Internet Domain Name system consists of an organized, hierarchical
directory of all Domain Names and their corresponding computers.
In order for your domain to be used on the Internet you need to define a
series of 'Name Servers' for your domain name. These settings specify the
computers on the Internet that will be responsible for instructing people trying
to access your domain how to reach your email and web servers or other services
you might provide through your domain.
Generally your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or hosting organization will provide you with 2 or more
Name Servers. They may also refer to them as DNS servers or Domain Name
Servers.
You don't actually need Name Servers when registering a domain name. You can
elect to park your domain name, which will set your domain to use a temporary
setup that will put a 'Coming Soon' page up for your domain name. You are welcome to
use this parking service for as long as you want but you will need to change it
to make any more use of your domain name.

website?

services in order to make your domain 'tick'. Generally this can be provided
through your current ISP who will charge a fee based on the services you
require.

I just want to alias my existing domain or point a dot-CA to an existing page. Do
I need to purchase hosting for that?
It depends on your needs. We do offer a very basic forwarding service that allows you to do some simple forwarding of your domain; however, should you have high-volume traffic on your domain or rely on your website for business it is recommended that you upgrade to a proper hosting package.
